What WordPress maintenance covers
A WordPress site has three layers of software that release updates regularly: WordPress itself, the theme and the plugins. Outdated plugins are where WordPress sites are most often exposed: Patchstack found that 96% of the 7,966 new WordPress vulnerabilities reported in 2024 were in plugins. Maintenance keeps all three current without breaking the site, and covers the rest of the routine:
- Updates. WordPress, theme and plugin updates are applied, and the site is checked afterwards.
- Backups. Daily backups, so a bad update or a mistake can be undone.
- Security and monitoring. We watch whether the site is up and look for signs of trouble.
- Speed. WordPress sites slow down as plugins, images and content pile up; we keep pages loading quickly.
- Changes on request. New text, prices, photos or opening hours: you send a message, we make the change. There’s no editor for you to learn.
- Technical support. If the contact form stops sending or a page breaks, you tell us and we deal with it.
The full monthly routine, item by item, is in our guide to what website maintenance includes.
Taking over a site we didn’t build
Most WordPress sites we’re asked to look after were built by someone else. Before agreeing a price we check the site for free:
- What it runs on. The WordPress version, the theme, the plugins and whether any of them are abandoned.
- Where it’s hosted, who controls the domain, and whether there are working backups.
- What needs fixing first, such as overdue updates, a broken form or a security warning.
You then get a price for looking after the site, and a separate price for any fixes it needs first. Nothing starts until you agree. One-off problems without ongoing care? See website fixes and changes.
Price
For sites we didn’t build, the price is on request after a free check of the site. For WordPress sites B63 builds, care is included in the monthly plan: €0 upfront and €150 a month excl. VAT for 24 months, with hosting, updates, backups and changes. To compare what others charge, see what website maintenance costs per month.
WordPress or custom?
WordPress is the right tool for many online stores and for owners who want to edit the site themselves. For a typical small-business site, a custom-built site has far less to maintain: no plugins, no database and no public admin login. That’s why new B63 sites are custom-built by default. If your WordPress site has reached the point where maintaining it costs more than it’s worth, a website redesign costs the same as a new site. The trade-offs are in custom website vs WordPress.
Why B63

- WordPress sites we look after today. Five of the six client websites in our portfolio run on WordPress.
- A price before any work, after a free look at the site.
The care plan for sites we build is described on the website maintenance page. To get started, send us your site’s address.
