Fitzroy, Melbourne · since 2018
Long lunches,
later nights.
A neighbourhood Mediterranean kitchen and wine bar. Wood-fired plates, pasta rolled each morning, and three hundred bottles from both sides of the sea.
- Lunch Fri–Sun from noon
- Dinner Wed–Sun from 5pm
- Walk-ins always at the bar
Our table
Named for the warm south wind that blows across the Mediterranean.
Ostro is the wind that brings the warm weather in. We wanted a room that does the same — candles on, records playing, a kitchen cooking over ironbark and red gum, and a list of wines you will not find at the bottle shop.
- 01
Cooked over fire
Our grill burns Victorian ironbark. Seafood, lamb and whole vegetables pick up the smoke.
- 02
Pasta every morning
Rolled and cut by hand before service, with semolina milled in the Wimmera.
- 03
Three hundred bottles
Small growers from Sicily to the Yarra Valley, twenty by the glass, all changing often.

Charred octopus
Pappardelle, lamb ragù
Burrata, blood orange

Il vino
Twenty by the glass, three hundred in the cellar.
Our list leans on small family growers — volcanic whites from the islands, skin-contact from Gippsland, Nebbiolo from the King Valley. Not sure? Tell us what you like and we will pour you a taste.

Before you come
Do you take walk-ins?
Always. The bar and about half the dining room are kept for walk-ins every night. Fridays and Saturdays after 7pm there may be a short wait — we will text you when your table is ready.
How do you handle allergies and coeliac guests?
Every dish is labelled, and the kitchen keeps a separate fryer and pasta pot for gluten-free cooking. Tell us when you book and we will brief the whole team.
Is there a time limit on tables?
Two hours for tables of up to four on Friday and Saturday nights. Lunches and every other night, the table is yours for as long as you like.
Can I bring my own wine?
On Wednesdays and Thursdays, yes — corkage is $20 per bottle. Weekends we pour from our own list only.
Are children welcome?
Of course, especially at lunch. We have high chairs and a small plate of pasta and butter that has never once been refused.
What is your cancellation policy?
Please give us 24 hours’ notice. For groups of six or more and set menus we take a card to hold the booking and charge $30 per person for late cancellations.
